Looking at AND creating art makes you happy

Scientific evidence suggests that creating art can elevate your mood, clarify your ability to problem solve, and increase open-mindedness. All these things are likely to make you happy!

What’s more there are so many ways to express yourself when ‘making’ something, whether that’s through the medium of paint, photography, written word, music, dance and more. We’re not talking about creating commercial art which has its own requirements; we’re talking about creating something for ourselves.

And the bit we love to focus on here here at Salty Sea Panda, is how to experience a sense of well-being and how that manifests itself whether that’s a feeling of peace, feeling accomplished, to feeling proud. They’re YOUR feelings, no one else’s, and just one very simple way to experience feeling happy.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else ‘thinks’ about what we all ‘make’; we’re simply enjoying the process of being creative. So forget whether you believe you are a creative or not (no need to label yourself) or whether someone else does or doesn’t ‘like’ your art; roll up your sleeves and take that photo, paint that cupboard, sew that jacket, write that story, compose that song… by having a go, you too can enjoy finding happiness.

Coming up with a masterpiece is not a prerequisite – simply a bonus!

Panda is pretty rubbish at throwing pots, but it made her happy trying!

Mental health professionals agree that there’s a correlation between creative expression and positivity. Art is defined as the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects. A study by neurobiologist and University College London professor Semir Zeki found that looking at a work of art can actually have the same psychological effect as the euphoric experience of romantic love.

Not that we’re suggesting that you’ll fall in love with our gallery, but we’ve collated just a few photos to give you some ideas on how we express some of our creativity.

Some images are there because we like the colour, some the composition, some the subject and some the treatment. Anything goes, it just has to please or connect with us in some way.  There is no right or wrong.  Hopefully you might be inspired to go ‘create your own happiness’.

Let's choose happiness
together.
